The Super Scary Reading Slump
No matter if you’ve been reading for decades or you’re just getting started, reaching a reading slump is inevitable.
For those who don’t know what this is, it is basically a stage where you can’t continue reading for multiple reasons, such as not finding a book to read, being too mentally tired to pick up a book (work, stress, life in general), reading multiple books at once, and so on.
If you’re currently in your reading slump era, this post can help you out. Continue reading to learn how to get out of a reading slump and enjoy page-turners again.
Find New Books To Read
Sometimes, all we need is a little change. If you’re tired of your reading slump phase, you might want to try to hit the bookstore and find new books to read.
This doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune to eliminate a reading slump, thus you can head to the library too. Find a book that helps you get back on your head, for example, a shorter book compared to the ones you normally read, or a poem book that allows you to easily read and turn the page.
Read Your Favorite Book Again
There’s nothing like reading a book you like over and over again. I find this to be the perfect way to pick up on small details I missed the previous time I read it. Plus, it is excellent to get out of a reading slump.
Find books to read that you know how they’ll ‘work’ (who are the characters, their relationships, what the plot’s about) to reduce the mental effort you have to make when reading a new piece.
Switch Up Genres
Don’t be afraid to find excellent books to read in another category different from the one you're accustomed. Sometimes, a little change is what we need to get out of the boring reading slump.
You don’t need to pick up a completely different genre though. If you’re a fan of romance, try finding a rom-com instead. It is not 100% different but this will allow you to keep reading what you like but with a slight twist.
Give Yourself Time To Rest
This article is about helping you get out of a reading slump so you can enjoy your page-turners again like nothing happened. Yet, we can’t omit a vital part of the process, which is giving yourself time to rest.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to end your reading slump phase, however, we consider that putting pressure on yourself and trying a hundred different methods will only have a negative effect on your reading process.
Just remember to be patient with yourself!
