Easy DIY Bookshelf Ideas To Spice Up Your Home

Apartment-friendly bookshelf ideas to keep everything organized and nicely decorated

As an avid reader, you know having a simple bookcase is not the best way to store your books. It’s like having a plain phone case, it’s good at first but then it starts to get boring. This is why, in this post, I bring you my top 3 DIY bookshelves you can easily recreate on a budget, that don’t require you to mess up your walls or anything tedious.

Multi-Purpose Bookshelf

I love this type of bookcase corner because it allows me to make it part of my home and my decor at the same time. Plus, I don’t need to make holes in the wall so it’s a nice apartment-friendly project. You don’t need to buy an expensive bookshelf either, thus you’d be surprised how many incredible vintage ones are available on Facebook Marketplace and thrift stores.

The key here is to blend your books with your decor, such as candles, vinyls, vases, and anything you’d like. If you happen to find furniture with drawers or cabinets you can store all your ‘don’t-know-where-to-put-this’ things!

If you’re not a fan of displaying your books or like to have your space clean, and free of visual noise, you’ll love this small DIY bookshelf. You don’t need to do anything crazy or spend a lot of money on furniture. Simply find a small rectangle-shaped shelf or you can combine various box-style shelves for this project. As before, you can combine your books with decor or even use the top as a seat and create your little reading nook—apartment-friendly too.

In the picture, the bookshelf is screwed to the wall but you can skip this and just put your furniture/box shelf on the floor.

Classic Bookshelf With A Twist

This is a classic bookshelf you probably already have but the start of the show is the greenery. The simple addition of a plant, even a small one, can massively change how this space feels and looks. I love big-leaf plants such as a Monstera and succulents like String of Pearls and think they look so cute with bookshelves so definitely get some!

For all my apartment girls (and boys), this bookshelf corner is perfect and very easy to move around if you like to arrange your furniture at 3 AM like me. Bonus tip? Add a rug beneath your bookshelf to make it even easier to move around and don’t risk damaging your floors or having to listen to that annoying sound of moving something heavy.
